In an encapsulation system with functional core materials, it is important toenhance the mechanical and thermal stabilities of the microcapsules to sustain their propertiesin the matrix polymer. In this study, poly(melamine-urea-formaldehyde) (MUF)microcapsules were prepared by in-situ polymerization in an oil-in-water emulsion. Then, the microcapsules were rewrapped with melamine-urea-formaldehyde and silica to formmultiwalled organic/inorganic hybrid microcapsules. From the combined results of 1HNMRimaging, FT-IR spectroscopy, TGA, and SEM-EDX, it was found that the microcapsuleshave highly enhanced mechanical durabilities. In addition, when introduced into siliconerubber composites, the microcapsules were observed to be well dispersed and result inmechanical improvement of the composite owing to the rigid inorganic surface of themicrocapsule. This enables the possibility of creating functional composites with highdurabilities.-
