Abstract
An attempt is made to achieve a very high density recording on continuous longitudinal media with a newly designed planar-type write head, which can generate a very high write field up to about 14 kOe. A particular emphasis is given to the writability of the planar-type head on the medium with a very high value of magneto-crystalline anisotropy (K). A reasonably good bit pattern with a density of 605 kfci is generated on the medium with K = 4.5 x 10(5) J/m(3). However, bit shape is rather curved, and the track width of the written pattern is significantly higher than the head track width. These problems are relieved with the use of a trimmed planar head showing narrow field distribution. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
