Abstract
Magnetostriction of a metallic glass ribbon METGLAS 2826MB was measured by fiber-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometry. The saturation magnetostriction obtained in this work is well matched within 10% with reported value. Two passes of fibers in the part of sensing arm were bonded to a single-layer metallic ribbon. For an accurate measurement, (1) the ribbon was flattened before bonding, (2) the protective outer layer of the fibers was uncoated and (3) calibration was routinely made before each measurement. Various factors affecting the accuracy of the measurements were also discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
