Abstract
A thermochemical process converting NaBO2 into NaBH4 was investigated using aluminum as a reducing agent. NaBO2 was obtained from hydrolysis of NaBH4 and subsequent evaporation and calcination processes. By applying fine particles (3.5μm) of aluminum, it was possible to obtain reasonable NaBO2 conversion of 42% while it was not possible to produce NaBH4 using aluminum of 30μm particle size. Further improvement of the conversion up to 76% was achieved by chemical treatment of the reactants.
