In Situ X-ray Diffraction Studies on Li2MSiO4 (M=Mn, Fe, Co) and Their Derivatives

In this study, we have synthesised polyaniontype silicate Li2MSiO4 (M=Mn, Fe, Co) and their derivative using mechanochemical method. The samples were prepared by mixing Li2SiO3, FeC2O4·H2O, and doping or coating agents followed by ball milling and calcination at different temperatures. For the through understanding of the reaction and the degradation mechanism, synchrotron based X-ray techniques were conducted at Pohang Light Source (PAL). There was previous report on the in situ X-ray diffraction study on Li2MnSiO4 and Li2FeSiO4 using CuKα radiation source.5 But the synchrotron based X-ray techniques will provide much more information compared to those from CuKα radiation source. The in situ X-ray diffraction technique was done at beamline 10B XRS KIST-PAL using MAR345 image plated detector and the high resolution X-ray power diffraction technique was done at beamline 8C2 HRPD (High Resolution Power Diffraction), respectively. Modified 2032 coin cells were used as in situ XRD cells as has been described in detail elsewhere.8 The comparison between Li2MnSiO4, Li2FeSiO4, Li2CoSiO4, and their derivatives gave very interesting information.
