Abstract
Guided modes in a solid-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) are numerically classified. In this calculation, the air-hole region of PCF is simplified as a step-index inner cladding. It is found that there is no guided mode confined in the inner cladding. The effect of the pure-silica outer cladding on the mode field profiles is also investigated.
