- In this paper, we suggest a network connection scheme which can be used in a robotic system equipped with a number of Single Board Computers (SBC) and based on the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) middleware. Mostly in current system, the SBCs are connected through the Ethernet. Instead of using the Ethernet only, we suggest to use IEEE 1394 to improve bandwidth. This offers faster data transfer capability between the SBCs. Because the UPnP is IP-based middleware, an UPnP network bridge between the Ethernet network and the IEEE 1394 network is needed. In this way, the internal networks connected through the IEEE 1394 can be seen from the outside. The broaden bandwidth will allow robots to have more capabilities.
