Abstract
In the future, robots will become more intelligent servants at home. Their services will be composed of many S/W components. In this case, it is important to easily use and to connect to smart devices in the environments. The UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is middleware that has many advantages for robots in dynamic distributed computing environment, and we have developed UPnP based robot middleware. In this paper, we implement a serving robot that is capable of serving some cookie and beverage and of carrying an object to an assigned point. The S/W component of the robot is built using UPnP based robot middleware so that it is easy to use and control. We also implement a smart phone controller to control the serving robot for convenience.
