- Recently, many scientists developed a lot of systems to control the release of nitric oxide (NO) which inhibits the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells, the apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells, and aggregation of platelet. Here, a novel NO-conjugated gel system was developed by using branched polyethyleneimine(BPEI) and pluronic F127. BPEI was easily conjugated to F127 via p-nitrophenylchlorofor-mate(p-NPC) chemistry and F127-BPEI-NONOates was synthesized by high pressure of no to form the diazeniumdionates (NONOates) in secondary amine sites. NO-conjugated gel system could reduce initial burst of NO release in respect of concentration and show the selective fuctions in smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. That is, this local system for delivering the NO has a great potential in several biomedical applications due to the low cytotoxicity and selective fuctions of NO without leaking out of cytotoxic small molecules.
