Abstract
The pursuit of new materials with novel functionalities has led, over the past several years, to the use of colloidal templates as self-assembled building blocks for the fabrication of quasi-ordered sub-micron structures of various materials. This approach has attracted a great deal of attention for a means of synthesizing advanced catalysts and chemical sensors. It has been difficult, however, to employ this method to synthesize complex compounds and to ensure high reproducibility and throughput, largely due to the nature of the wet chemistry routes used to infiltrate the voids between the colloids with the precursors.
