- Recently, multifunctional polymeric nanoparticles that enable to deliver both of imaging agents and therapeutic drugs have been achieved much attention because of their potential for various biomedical applications. In particular, these nanoparticles have been successfully used for diagnosis, imaging, and treatment of cancer since they can be passively accumulated at the tumor site via the EPR (enhanced permeability and retention) effect. Polymeric micelles, composed of hydrophobic inner core and hydrophilic shell, can enclose poorly water-soluble anti-cancer drugs and diagnostic agents in their hydrophobic core and can deliver them to the tumor site.
