Abstract
FINEMET type nanocrystalline materials synthesized by controlled crystallization of amorphous ribbons [1] exhibit excellent soft magnetic properties making them attractive for technological applications. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements have been carried out at Fe L3,2 and Co L3,2&#8211;edges to investigate the chemical states and electronic structure of (Fe100-x Cox)78Si9Nb3B9Cu- 1(0<x<100) alloys. Fe L3,2-edge spectra reveal that Fe is in 2+ state and in tetrahedral symmetry with other elements. In the present work we report the influence of controlled Co addition on electronic structural and magnetic properties of (Fe100-xCox)78 Si9Nb3B9Cu1 (x = 0<x<100) alloys using synchrotron XAS and XMCD measurements done at Pohang Light Source, Republic of Korea. The magnetic properties exhibiting soft magnetic behavior [2] is discussed on the basis of the electronic structure studied through XMCD.
