- Hydrogen is one of the most prospective alternative energy sources to replace conventional fossil fuels, due to its environmental friendliness and abundant utilization from nature. Thus, many researches have been actively performed on
realizing hydrogen generation and separation using ceramic materials which conduct protons or both protons and electrons. Doped BaZrO3 is a promising candidate for the proton conducting ceramics because of its high chemical stability and
protonic conductivity. However, its poor sinterability should be much enhanced in order to be practically adopted in the varied applications based on proton conductors. This study shows an approach to reduce the sintering temperature of doped
BaZrO3 with sintering aids such as ZnO, CuO and Co3O4. Effect on the sintering behavior was observed from microstructures, and the corresponding electrical conductivity was also measured under several gas conditions to investigate
changes in protonic conductivity.
