Abstract
The poor electrochemical performance of Li-ion batteries at low temperature is one of the major technical barriers for their applications to the energy source in transportation system. The reduced temperature basically deactivates all the key reaction steps such as the ionic conduction in the electrolyte, Li+ transport through the solid electrolyte interface layer, interfacial charge transfer, and solid state lithium diffusion, leading to the loss of both energy and power capabilities1-4. LiFePO4 that has attracted much recent interest due to non-toxicity, excellent thermal stability, the abundance of iron, is no exception to this undesirable low-temperature energy and power decline. Although a lot of attention has been given to this issue, its exact mechanism has not been clearly understood yet.
