- The luminescence of semiconductor nanoparticles such as InP and ZnSe etc., has been studied widely.
Especially, ZnS nanoparticles have unique optical, electrical properties due to the quantum confinement
effect. In this research, monodisperse spherical silica nanoparticles with size almost 300 nm were
synthesized by Stiiber method. And then, ZnS nanoparticles were grown on the silica surface by the reaction
between aqueous zrnc acetate dihydrate and aqueous thioacetamide. In other word, silica-ZnS nano
composite with core-shell structures were prepared in this process. Finally, the thin layer of the silica was
covered on the ZnS@silica using Sol-Gel process. In this research, the fluorescence of the silica layercovered
ZnS@silica nano composite and uncovered ZnS@silica were measured by the photoluminescence
instrument. As a result, the fluorescence intensrty of the silica layer-covered ZnS@silica nano composite
was strongly increased compared with uncovered ZnS@silica. Here in, the luminescence properties and the
surface images of silica@JnS@silica, ZnS@silica particles will be presented.
