Abstract
ㆍ Sulfur dioxide separation and recovery process with a novel absorbent has been suggested for the application to sulfur-related water splitting cycles such as hybrid sulfur and SI cycles. ㆍ Ionic liquids can be novel absorbents for the selective SO2 separation and recovery process from SO2/O2 gaseous mixtures by their specific properties including stability, designable affinity to sulfur dioxide. ㆍ High pressure continuous process is designed with [EMIm]EtSO4 by solubility model measured by magnetic suspension balance and temperature / pressure swing methods. ㆍ Steady-state operation is confirmed with capacity of 194L/h SO2 flow rate over 99.85% purity of oxygen separated.
