- Annealing process has been regarded as a key step toward obtaining high power conversion efficiency (PCE) based on Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):Fullerene Derivative (PCBM) solar cells. The annealing of P3HT:PCBM films is effective way to control the D-A phase separation morphology, which improves the light absorption properties and increase crystallinity of P3HT. Traditional annealing methods included thermal treatment, solvent vapor exposure, and microwave treatment, which are time-consuming and inefficient process. Here, we demonstrated a new method to control the morphology of P3HT:PCBM thin films within a few seconds using pulsed light. Pulsed light irradiation on P3HT:PCBM thin films for only 2 seconds resulted in improved PCEs of the device almost approaching to that of the devices prepared by typical thermal treatment. The white pulsed light treatment is substantially beneficial to split-second, large area and cost-effective roll-to-roll production of polymer solar cells.
