Abstract
In this study, a centrifugal compressor for hydrocarbon mixed refrigerants is designed to be aerodynamic by using a commercial code. The most frequently used real gas equations of state (EOS), such as the Redlich-Kwong, Peng- Robinson, and GERG-2008 EOSs, are considered to be superior to any other equation to simulate the properties of hydrocarbon mixed refrigerants in order to analyze the flow characteristics in centrifugal compressors. Overall characteristics in the passage of the impeller were analyzed in detail including distribution of static pressure, relative Mach number, entropy and velocity characteristics at the impeller outlet, etc. The GERG-2008 EOS predicts relatively high-pressure ratio and polytropic efficiency, compared other EOSs.
