Abstract
Polyvinylidene fluoride has been widely used in microfiltration (MF) membranes. Because of its hydrophobicity, PVDF can easily adsorb proteins and many other organic molecules during the membrane separation process, resulting in membrane biofouling. In our study, we demonstrate the plasma-induced grafting of hydrophilic monomers onto MF PVDF membrane surfaces and internal pores. The flux profiles and antibiofouling performances of the surface-modified membranes were compared with a pristine PVDF membrane.
