Abstract
A combination of a photovoltaic (PV) and an electrolytic cell into one single system, a monolithic PV-electrolytic cell, has been suggested as an efficient solar hydrogen generation system. For the realization of this architecture, precursor solution based wide band-gap CuInxGa1-xS2 (CIGS) thin film solar cells were developed to use as a PV photoelectrode. In addition, low temperature coating method of Co3O4 film was also developed to install an electrocatalytic layer on the reverse side of the photoelectrode for efficient water splitting. The details of the synthetic method and characterization of solution processed CIGS thin films and the solar-hydrogen generation system will be discussed in the presentation.
