Abstract
Over the last two decades, organic solar cells (OSCs) have been extensively studied for their great potential as a cost-effective renewable energy source, and significant progress has been made in their power conversion efficiency (PCE) 1-3). In order to make use of the full advantages of OSCs, namely, large area coverage, low-cost processing, and mechanical flexibility, it is required to develop new transparent electrode materials with high conductivity and good mechanical stability. Until now, indium tin oxide (ITO) is widely used as such a material for transparent electrodes. Silver nanowire (Ag NW) mesh electrode is a promising alternative because of its several benefits: (1) simple synthesis such as polyol method, (2) optical and electrical properties comparable to ITO, (3) good flexibility and (4) possibility of mass production and large area coverage by roll-to-roll manufacturing solution process such as slot-die. Many research works of Ag NW mesh have mainly focused on developing intrinsic properties of transparent electrodes such as conductivity and transmittance, and on improving surface roughness for fabrication of OSCs. Recently, use of plasmonic light scattering and trapping by Ag nanostructures has been suggested as an attractive strategy to enhance the absorption in photo active layer to improve efficiency.
