Abstract
Today we are living in the information society where the creation, distribution and use of information is significant for the social progress. In the information society, the secure communication is crucial in order to protect private and public information. Many countries have been developing new cryptographic techniques and methods. The security of public key cryptography which is widely used in the present electronic communications and data storage is based on the computational complexity. However, the increasing computing power and the developing new computation algorithms are threatening the security. On the other hand, the security of quantum cryptography is provided by the law of physics. Since its first suggestion in 1984, it has been attracted a lot since quantum cryptography can offer the unconditional security. Many advanced countries such as the United States, EU, Japan, Australia, and China have already developed quantum cryptography system. Many large cities (Boston, Geneva, Vienna, Tokyo, Beijing, etc) have quantum cryptography test-bed to support the commercialization of quantum cryptography. It is necessary to prepare a new paradigm for information security based on quantum cryptography. In this paper, we report the domestic and foreign technology trends for quantum cryptography and prospect the future development.
