- Water dropwort (Oenanthe javanica) is a perennial herb with distinctive aroma and taste from East Asia. It belongs to the Umbelliferae family along with coriander, caraway, fennel, and cumin. The fresh stems and leaves are used as a juice or salad or a seasoning in soups and stews in Korea. Interestingly, according to traditional medicine, O. Javanica is recommend for the treatment of jaundice, hypertension, fever, abdominal pain, leucorrhea, mumps, and urinary difficulties. Indeed, O. Javanica extract has anti-arrhythmic activity, anti-diabetic activity, and anti-hepatitis B virus activity. No studies have yet been conducted on comparison of components in accordance with the processing method. In this study, major components of water dropwort using processing method were isolated by several column chromatography and their chemical structures were identified by NMR and LC-MS analysis.
