Abstract
HFCs (Hydrofluorocarbon) have been used as a replacement for CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) materials as refrigerants because of their lower global warming potential than HCFC (Hydrochlorofluorocarbon) materials. Currently, HFCs are considered a cause of greenhouse gases, and worldwide efforts are being made to develop technologies to reduce HFCs. In this study, a catalyst for HFC-134a decomposition was investigated under a fixed bed reactor system. It was known as alumina catalysts used to decompose fluorinated gases. In the study, Mg-Al Oxide catalysts were prepared by the green solid-state method with various Mg/Al ratios. The prepared catalysts were characterized by N2-physical adsorption, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD, and XRD. The catalytic reaction was performed in a fixed bed reactor with an HFC-134a under 400 ~ 600 oC, and 1 bar. In addition, the thermal decomposition properties were compared in the catalyst and non-catalyst. Mg-Al Oxide showed stable and high HFC-134a conversion compared to the Al Oxide.
