<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">A&#x20;modular&#x20;manipulation&#x20;system&#x20;has&#x20;advantages&#x20;such&#x20;as&#x20;flexibility,&#x20;re-configurability,&#x20;and&#x20;cost&#x20;reduction&#x20;that&#x20;are&#x20;effective&#x20;in&#x20;high-mix&#x2F;low-volume&#x20;task.&#x20;Modular&#x20;manipulation&#x20;system,&#x20;ModMan,&#x20;for&#x20;expansion&#x20;of&#x20;robot&#x20;applicability&#x20;is&#x20;presented&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;paper.&#x20;Three&#x20;components&#x20;-&#x20;modular&#x20;hardware&#x20;platform,&#x20;self-reconfigurable&#x20;motion&#x20;engine&#x20;and&#x20;task&#x20;recognition&#x20;engine&#x20;-&#x20;are&#x20;included&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;system&#x20;and&#x20;it&#x20;has&#x20;characteristics&#x20;of&#x20;easy-to-install&#x20;and&#x20;easy-to-use&#x20;for&#x20;non-expert&#x20;of&#x20;robotics.</dcvalue>
