<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Generally,&#x20;three-dimensional&#x20;images&#x20;provide&#x20;viewers&#x20;with&#x20;an&#x20;enhanced&#x20;sense&#x20;of&#x20;reality,&#x20;leading&#x20;to&#x20;increased&#x20;needs&#x20;for&#x20;3D&#x20;devices&#x20;and&#x20;related&#x20;services.&#x20;However,&#x20;but&#x20;for&#x20;considering&#x20;human&#x20;factors,&#x20;technical&#x20;and&#x20;economic&#x20;growths&#x20;in&#x20;3D&#x20;industry&#x20;would&#x20;be&#x20;obstructed.&#x20;Recently,&#x20;more&#x20;attention&#x20;has&#x20;been&#x20;given&#x20;to&#x20;3D&#x20;human&#x20;factors&#x20;due&#x20;to&#x20;image&#x20;safety&#x20;issues&#x20;raised&#x20;by&#x20;exposure&#x20;to&#x20;undesirable&#x20;3D&#x20;content&#x20;and&#x20;environments.&#x20;This&#x20;article&#x20;is&#x20;concerned&#x20;with&#x20;briefly&#x20;explaining&#x20;the&#x20;visual&#x20;mechanisms&#x20;for&#x20;processing&#x20;external&#x20;3D&#x20;visual&#x20;information&#x20;and&#x20;introduces&#x20;related&#x20;studies.&#x20;The&#x20;main&#x20;factors&#x20;adversely&#x20;affecting&#x20;human&#x20;health&#x20;and&#x20;standardization&#x20;activities&#x20;for&#x20;determining&#x20;optimal&#x20;viewing&#x20;factors&#x20;and&#x20;establishing&#x20;human-friendly&#x20;3D&#x20;guidelines&#x20;are&#x20;introduced&#x20;and&#x20;discussed.</dcvalue>
