<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Electromagnetic&#x20;fields&#x20;radiated&#x20;from&#x20;an&#x20;intestine-ingested&#x20;source&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;human&#x20;body&#x20;model&#x20;are&#x20;calculated&#x20;using&#x20;the&#x20;finite-difference&#x20;time-domain&#x20;(FDTD)&#x20;method.&#x20;The&#x20;propagation&#x20;characteristics&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;vertically&#x20;polarized&#x20;components&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;electric&#x20;fields&#x20;at&#x20;the&#x20;receiving&#x20;points&#x20;vertically&#x20;placed&#x20;on&#x20;the&#x20;model&#x20;surface&#x20;are&#x20;analyzed&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;frequency&#x20;range&#x20;of&#x20;100&#x20;MHz&#x20;to&#x20;700&#x20;MHz.&#x20;As&#x20;the&#x20;receiving&#x20;point&#x20;moves&#x20;away&#x20;from&#x20;the&#x20;ingested&#x20;source,&#x20;the&#x20;received&#x20;electric&#x20;fields&#x20;show&#x20;relatively&#x20;lower&#x20;attenuation&#x20;above&#x20;400&#x20;MHz&#x20;and&#x20;generate&#x20;an&#x20;unusual&#x20;dip&#x20;pattern&#x20;at&#x20;a&#x20;particular&#x20;frequency&#x20;below&#x20;400&#x20;MHz.&#x20;The&#x20;above&#x20;two&#x20;interesting&#x20;features&#x20;may&#x20;occur&#x20;due&#x20;to&#x20;the&#x20;surface&#x20;wave&#x20;propagating&#x20;along&#x20;the&#x20;boundary&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;human&#x20;body&#x20;model.&#x20;The&#x20;effects&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;surface&#x20;wave&#x20;are&#x20;illustrated&#x20;clearly&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;homogeneous&#x20;circular&#x20;cylinder&#x20;as&#x20;a&#x20;simplified&#x20;model&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;human&#x20;body.</dcvalue>
