<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Metal&#x20;matrix&#x20;composites&#x20;of&#x20;two&#x20;magnesium&#x20;alloys&#x20;(AM100&#x20;and&#x20;ZC63)&#x20;with&#x20;saffil&#x20;alumina&#x20;fibre&#x20;reinforcements&#x20;were&#x20;produced&#x20;using&#x20;a&#x20;squeeze&#x20;infiltration&#x20;technique.&#x20;Mechanical&#x20;properties&#x20;were&#x20;assessed,&#x20;followed&#x20;by&#x20;analysis&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;fractured&#x20;specimens.&#x20;From&#x20;the&#x20;strength,&#x20;toughness&#x20;and&#x20;the&#x20;fractographic&#x20;analysis,&#x20;attempts&#x20;were&#x20;made&#x20;to&#x20;elucidate&#x20;the&#x20;influence&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;matrix,&#x20;fibre&#x20;volume&#x20;fraction&#x20;and&#x20;the&#x20;fibre&#x2F;matrix&#x20;interface&#x20;on&#x20;the&#x20;properties.</dcvalue>
