<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Anatase&#x20;nanostructured&#x20;TiO2&#x20;particles&#x20;were&#x20;synthesized&#x20;at&#x20;low&#x20;temperature&#x20;by&#x20;a&#x20;modified&#x20;sol-gel&#x20;method&#x20;using&#x20;water&#x20;immiscible&#x20;room&#x20;temperature&#x20;ionic&#x20;liquid&#x20;as&#x20;an&#x20;effective&#x20;template.&#x20;Anatase&#x20;phase&#x20;was&#x20;formed&#x20;at&#x20;low&#x20;temperature&#x20;(100&#x20;degrees&#x20;C)&#x20;by&#x20;effective&#x20;aggregation&#x20;of&#x20;TiO2&#x20;particles&#x20;with&#x20;a&#x20;self-assembled&#x20;IL&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;sol.&#x20;The&#x20;photocatalytic&#x20;activity&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;prepared&#x20;sample&#x20;was&#x20;tested&#x20;for&#x20;the&#x20;degradation&#x20;of&#x20;4-chlorophenol.&#x20;The&#x20;TiO2&#x20;particle&#x20;prepared&#x20;with&#x20;ionic&#x20;liquid&#x20;showed&#x20;higher&#x20;photocatalytic&#x20;activity&#x20;than&#x20;that&#x20;prepared&#x20;with&#x20;the&#x20;conventional&#x20;sol-gel&#x20;method&#x20;under&#x20;identical&#x20;conditions.&#x20;(c)&#x20;2005&#x20;Elsevier&#x20;B.V.&#x20;All&#x20;rights&#x20;reserved.</dcvalue>
