<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">A&#x20;new&#x20;technique&#x20;to&#x20;improve&#x20;analogue&#x20;optical&#x20;transmission&#x20;performance&#x20;using&#x20;an&#x20;optical&#x20;single-sideband&#x20;(SSB)&#x20;system&#x20;incorporating&#x20;a&#x20;semiconductor&#x20;optical&#x20;amplifier&#x20;(SOA)&#x20;has&#x20;been&#x20;proposed.&#x20;In&#x20;this&#x20;experiment,&#x20;the&#x20;optical&#x20;SSB&#x20;signal,&#x20;which&#x20;was&#x20;injected&#x20;into&#x20;an&#x20;SOA,&#x20;was&#x20;distorted&#x20;and&#x20;this&#x20;distorted&#x20;signal&#x20;could&#x20;be&#x20;recovered&#x20;to&#x20;the&#x20;SSB&#x20;signal&#x20;by&#x20;detuning&#x20;the&#x20;RF&#x20;phase&#x20;of&#x20;a&#x20;modulator.&#x20;The&#x20;distortion&#x20;was&#x20;increased&#x20;with&#x20;the&#x20;increase&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;SOA&#x20;current&#x20;and&#x20;input&#x20;power&#x20;in&#x20;the&#x20;unsaturated&#x20;gain&#x20;region,&#x20;and&#x20;the&#x20;detuning&#x20;quantity&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;RF&#x20;phase&#x20;to&#x20;restore&#x20;the&#x20;distorted&#x20;signal&#x20;to&#x20;the&#x20;SSB&#x20;signal&#x20;was&#x20;also&#x20;increased.&#x20;Thus,&#x20;the&#x20;RF&#x20;gain&#x20;after&#x20;phase&#x20;detuning&#x20;was&#x20;enhanced&#x20;with&#x20;the&#x20;distortion&#x20;quantity.&#x20;In&#x20;92&#x20;km&#x20;transmission&#x20;experiments,&#x20;the&#x20;detuned&#x20;signal&#x20;does&#x20;not&#x20;show&#x20;any&#x20;chromatic&#x20;dispersion&#x20;effects.</dcvalue>
