<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3&#x20;thin&#x20;film&#x20;was&#x20;deposited&#x20;on&#x20;MgO(001)&#x20;substrate&#x20;using&#x20;pulsed&#x20;laser&#x20;deposition.&#x20;On&#x20;appropriate&#x20;film-growing&#x20;conditions,&#x20;the&#x20;thin&#x20;film&#x20;was&#x20;highly&#x20;oriented&#x20;along&#x20;the&#x20;(001)&#x20;direction.&#x20;Electric&#x20;field&#x20;dependence&#x20;of&#x20;birefringence&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;thin&#x20;film&#x20;was&#x20;measured&#x20;using&#x20;Sernamont&#x20;method.&#x20;The&#x20;electro-optic&#x20;coefficient&#x20;resulted&#x20;in&#x20;1&#x20;x&#x20;10(-15)&#x20;m(2)&#x2F;V-2,&#x20;which&#x20;means&#x20;one&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;best&#x20;electro-optic&#x20;performance&#x20;in&#x20;dielectric&#x20;thin&#x20;films.&#x20;It&#x20;is&#x20;interesting&#x20;that&#x20;Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3&#x20;thin&#x20;film&#x20;is&#x20;highly&#x20;electro-optic&#x20;as&#x20;well&#x20;as&#x20;highly&#x20;tunable&#x20;in&#x20;microwave&#x20;frequency.&#x20;Optical&#x20;applications&#x20;of&#x20;Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3&#x20;thin&#x20;film&#x20;such&#x20;as&#x20;electro-optic&#x20;modulators&#x20;and&#x20;optical&#x20;waveguides&#x20;are&#x20;expected.</dcvalue>
