<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">We&#x20;propose&#x20;a&#x20;new&#x20;modeling&#x20;technique&#x20;for&#x20;long-period&#x20;fiber&#x20;gratings.&#x20;The&#x20;proposed&#x20;model&#x20;which&#x20;has&#x20;a&#x20;multipoint&#x20;lattice&#x20;filter&#x20;configuration&#x20;is&#x20;useful&#x20;in&#x20;analyzing&#x20;(or&#x20;synthesizing)&#x20;piecewise-uniform&#x20;long-period&#x20;fiber&#x20;gratings&#x20;when&#x20;the&#x20;spectrum&#x20;band&#x20;of&#x20;interest&#x20;is&#x20;wide&#x20;or&#x20;when&#x20;each&#x20;uniform&#x20;section&#x20;is&#x20;in&#x20;a&#x20;different&#x20;coupled&#x20;mode.&#x20;The&#x20;validity&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;proposed&#x20;model&#x20;is&#x20;confirmed&#x20;by&#x20;comparing&#x20;the&#x20;calculated&#x20;spectrum&#x20;curves&#x20;with&#x20;the&#x20;measured&#x20;ones.</dcvalue>
