<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">The&#x20;catalytic&#x20;activity&#x20;of&#x20;chars&#x20;prepared&#x20;from&#x20;lignite&#x20;by&#x20;fluidized-bed&#x20;pyrolysis&#x20;was&#x20;studied&#x20;in&#x20;a&#x20;fixed-bed&#x20;integral&#x20;reactor&#x20;for&#x20;the&#x20;reduction&#x20;of&#x20;nitric&#x20;oxide&#x20;with&#x20;ammonia&#x20;at&#x20;150-degrees-C.&#x20;The&#x20;effects&#x20;of&#x20;pyrolysis&#x20;condition&#x20;on&#x20;NO&#x20;conversion&#x20;were&#x20;investigated&#x20;by&#x20;varying&#x20;the&#x20;pyrolysis&#x20;temperature&#x20;and&#x20;composition&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;fluidizing&#x20;gas.&#x20;The&#x20;highest&#x20;catalytic&#x20;activity&#x20;was&#x20;obtained&#x20;from&#x20;pyrolysis&#x20;at&#x20;600-degrees-C&#x20;with&#x20;a&#x20;flow&#x20;of&#x20;nitrogen&#x20;containing&#x20;3.2&#x20;vol.%&#x20;oxygen.&#x20;The&#x20;effects&#x20;of&#x20;pyrolysis&#x20;condition&#x20;on&#x20;the&#x20;catalytic&#x20;activity&#x20;of&#x20;the&#x20;chars&#x20;could&#x20;be&#x20;explained&#x20;in&#x20;terms&#x20;of&#x20;surface&#x20;area&#x20;and&#x20;the&#x20;amount&#x20;of&#x20;oxygen&#x20;functional&#x20;groups.</dcvalue>
