<dcvalue element="description" qualifier="abstract">Dry&#x20;eye&#x20;syndrome&#x20;(DES)&#x20;is&#x20;a&#x20;prevalent&#x20;condition&#x20;that&#x20;causes&#x20;corneal&#x20;damage&#x20;and&#x20;discomfort&#x20;due&#x20;to&#x20;dryness.&#x20;This&#x20;study&#x20;investigates&#x20;Tetraselmis&#x20;chuii,&#x20;a&#x20;novel&#x20;food&#x20;ingredient&#x20;rich&#x20;in&#x20;polyunsaturated&#x20;fatty&#x20;acids&#x20;(PUFAs)&#x20;and&#x20;carotenoids,&#x20;for&#x20;its&#x20;potential&#x20;role&#x20;in&#x20;DES&#x20;prevention.&#x20;Using&#x20;a&#x20;scopolamine-induced&#x20;DES&#x20;model&#x20;in&#x20;BALB&#x2F;c&#x20;mice,&#x20;T.&#x20;chuii&#x20;administration&#x20;increased&#x20;corneal&#x20;thickness&#x20;and&#x20;tear&#x20;volume&#x20;while&#x20;reducing&#x20;lacrimal&#x20;gland&#x20;tissue&#x20;damage.&#x20;Additionally,&#x20;it&#x20;inhibited&#x20;immune&#x20;cell&#x20;infiltration&#x20;in&#x20;conjunctival&#x20;and&#x20;lacrimal&#x20;gland&#x20;tissue&#x20;in&#x20;a&#x20;dose-dependent&#x20;manner,&#x20;suggesting&#x20;a&#x20;reduction&#x20;in&#x20;immune&#x20;cell&#x20;migration&#x20;and&#x20;activation.&#x20;Western&#x20;blot&#x20;and&#x20;RNA&#x20;sequencing&#x20;analyses&#x20;showed&#x20;that&#x20;T.&#x20;chuii&#x20;suppressed&#x20;pro-inflammatory&#x20;cytokines&#x20;and&#x20;immune&#x20;cell&#x20;migration&#x20;markers,&#x20;modulating&#x20;inflammation&#x20;and&#x20;immune-related&#x20;gene&#x20;expression.&#x20;These&#x20;results&#x20;indicate&#x20;that&#x20;T.&#x20;chuii&#x20;supports&#x20;ocular&#x20;health&#x20;by&#x20;reducing&#x20;inflammation&#x20;and&#x20;regulating&#x20;immune&#x20;responses,&#x20;making&#x20;it&#x20;a&#x20;promising&#x20;natural&#x20;therapeutic&#x20;for&#x20;DES&#x20;treatment&#x20;and&#x20;prevention.</dcvalue>
