- Abstract
- In this study, chitosan was coated on dental implants to serve as a periodontal ligament-like soft membrane and the biomechanical functions of the membrane were studied. The results by experiments and ITEM analysis showed: 1) Initial stability of the dental implant significantly increased (35%) when it was coated with chitosan, and 2) the coated implants showed significantly higher impact absorbing capability, more even stress distribution, and lower peak stress magnitude in bone tissue around implant under impact loading than uncoated implants.
