Abstract
Adsorption of ammonia from anaerobic digester effluent by magnetically modified zeolite (MMZ) has been investigated using a batch technique and comparison of adsorption isotherm equations. Adsorption isotherm models were utilized to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were calculated. The sorption of ammonia follows Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) model isotherms. Langmuir constants Q(0) = 1.59 mmol/g and b = 28 L/mmol and Freundlich parameters 1/n = 0.72 and K-1 = 0.14 and D-R constants q(m) = 2.19 mmol/g, beta = 0.0146 mol(2)/kJ(2) and sorption energy E = 5.85 kJ/mol were evaluated. The MMZ displayed the main advantage of convenient separation compared with the present adsorption treatment processes.
