Abstract
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology's Tandem Ion Accelerator (KISTTIA) will be installed 2011 which consists of mainly four ion accelerators, 6-MV, 2-MV, 0.5-MV and 400-keV ion accelerators, including a 2-MV National Electrostatics Corporation (NEC) ion accelerator that has been operated since 1996. The 6-MV tandem ion accelerator is intended for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) for the heavy isotopes Be-10, Al-26, Cl-36, Ca-41, I-129 and Os-187 and for C-14 (high precision)) as well as a heavy ion elastic recoil detection (HI-ERD) and swift heavy-ion irradiation (SHI). A microprobe beam line will be attached for ion microscopy, as well as ion micromachining, to the 2-MV ion accelerator now available for standard ion beam analysis consisting of Rutherford backscattering (RBS), proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE), high-resolution RBS (HR-RBS) measurements. The 0.5-MV ion accelerator will be dedicated for bio-AMS and the 500 keV ion accelerator will be installed for ion beam modification. Possible application fields of 6-MV AMS for HI-ERD and SHI and the status of the high-resolution beamline construction will be presented.
