Abstract
In this paper, we analyzed the timing characteristics of a widely tunable sampled grating distributed feedback (SGDFB) laser diode integrated with sampled grating distributed Bragg reflector (SGDBR). The improved time-domain model is used to analyze the laser diode. From the numerical analysis, the length of the phase control region in the SGDFB section has an influence on the output power and the tuning range. Also, the tuning range is observed to be affected by the length of the laser diode, the residual reflectivity at the facet and the position of the facet.
