In situ crystallization and enhanced mechanical properties of the Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 alloy by cold rolling

Abstract
The mechanical properties of Zr-41 2Ti13.8CU12.5Ni10Be22.5 (Vitreloy 1, (Vit. 1)) have been examined after cold rolling, For the cold rolled Vit. I up to 18'V., in thickness reduction. both ultimate compressive strength and ductility exhibited tip it) 1.95 GPa with 20'X, of elongation. It appears that the increase of strength and elongation was due to the high density of shear bands together with in situ nano-crystallization by cold rolling. The in situ nano crystallization was confirmed by Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM). The enhancement of mechanical properties was discussed in terms of in situ nano-crystallization and structural stability of Vit. 1. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
