Abstract
Stable MgxZn1-xO solid solutions (0.32 <= x <= 0.67) with a rock salt structure were synthesized at temperatures higher than 700 degrees C and pressures above 5 GPa. The lattice parameters and the Mg/Zn ratio were determined by the Rietveld method from the powder x-ray diffraction data. Raman scattering studies confirmed the cubic structure. Cathodoluminescence spectra have shown blue-shifted luminescence as a result of the band gap widening of the solid solutions.
