Abstract
Anatase nanostructured TiO2 particles were synthesized at low temperature by a modified sol-gel method using water immiscible room temperature ionic liquid as an effective template. Anatase phase was formed at low temperature (100 degrees C) by effective aggregation of TiO2 particles with a self-assembled IL in the sol. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared sample was tested for the degradation of 4-chlorophenol. The TiO2 particle prepared with ionic liquid showed higher photocatalytic activity than that prepared with the conventional sol-gel method under identical conditions. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
