- Abstract
- Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film was deposited on MgO(001) substrate using pulsed laser deposition. On appropriate film-growing conditions, the thin film was highly oriented along the (001) direction. Electric field dependence of birefringence of the thin film was measured using Sernamont method. The electro-optic coefficient resulted in 1 x 10(-15) m(2)/V-2, which means one of the best electro-optic performance in dielectric thin films. It is interesting that Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film is highly electro-optic as well as highly tunable in microwave frequency. Optical applications of Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film such as electro-optic modulators and optical waveguides are expected.
