Abstract
A discussion on the main features of operation of modern diesel internal combustion engines covers the main permissible and critical oil quality characteristics for heavy-duty diesel engines; physical and chemical properties of soot particles; and laboratory methods of monitoring soot content in oil and its dispersing stabilizing properties, e.g., TGA, IR analysis, sedimentation method; development of portable monitoring devices built in the car lubrication system, which allow one to obtain on-line data on the oil efficiency.
