- Abstract
- The thermal stability and the phase transformation of zinc magnesium titanates, Zn1-xMgxTiO3 (x=0 similar to 1) in the sintering temperatures ranging 1000 degrees C similar to 1250 OC, have been investigated by XRD, SEM, EPMA-WDS analysis. It was found that another phase formation occured in between x=0.1 similar to 0.5 from alpha-Zn2TiO4 with rutile in x=0 and rhombohedral in x=1. The rutile was eliminated through the formation of (Zn,Mg)TiO3 hexagonal phase. A single phase (Zn,Mg)TiO3 solid solution exists in x=0.25 similar to 0.45, however the specimen found to be unstable above 1150 degrees C so that the phase decomposes into three phases; (Zn,Mg)(2)TiO4, (Zn,Mg)TiO3, and (Zn,Mp)(2)Ti3O8. MgTiO3 with rhombohedral phase transforms very slowly into hexagonal form until Zn is increased to 0.5 mole.
