Abstract
This chapter introduces various methods and techniques, such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-based or direct pyrolysis of carbon sources, developed for synthesizing graphene with a large scale. In addition, their growth mechanisms, which are related to the material's structural and physical properties and their potential applications in electronic devices, are discussed in the chapter. The chapter describes the properties of the graphene and the proposed growth mechanism relative to the metal catalysts. It explains the transfer methods and the properties of transferred graphene to target substrates relative to the protective layer. The chapter develops an affordable process, transfer and catalyst-free processes for synthesizing graphene. It discusses a novel and straightforward approach to the synthesis of atomically thin carbon nanosheets (CNS) similar to graphene on substrates such as silicon wafers and quartz, as well as the direct application of these CNS as electrodes for organic electronics. ? 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
