Abstract
α-MnO2 nanowiresweresynthesizedbyahydrothermalmethodandthenmixedwithagglomerated sulfur powders.Homogeneous α-MnO2-coated sulfurparticleswereobtainedbyutilizingheattreatment intended tomeltandrecrystallizethesulfur. α-MnO2 nanowiresleadtothesuppressioninre-agglom-eration ofsulfurpowdersduringheattreatmentandresultinsuccessfulcoatingaswellasdecreasedsize in parentsulfurpowders.The α-MnO2-coated sulfurparticleswereusedasthecathodematerialfor lithium-ion batteryapplications.Electrochemicalevaluationsuchastheratecapabilitycharacteristics and impedancestudyindicatesthatthe α-MnO2 coated sulfurcathodeshowslowerresistanceand improvedratecapabilitycomparedtoapristinesulfurcathode.
