Abstract
Cannabis sativa has recently been attracting attention as cosmetic ingredient. In addition, many studies are being conducted on fermented cosmetics with fewer few side effects and various health functions. Here, we examined C. sativa stems fermented by various probiotics. We found that the C. sativa stems fermented by Weissella paramesenteroides showed a significant whitening-effect in melan-a cells. Its presence supressed the expressionlevels of tyrosinase-related protein-1 and microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, which are important regulators of melanogenesis. This study suggests that its whitening-effect can be a new foundation for the cosmetic industry.
