In multistep time integration methods, it is crucial to select appropriate loads within time-steps for reliable and accurate finite element solutions. The objective of this study is to find a strategy for optimal usage of the multistep time integration scheme for effective and reliable solutions of a system under any kind of loading. By inspecting the resulting numerical impulse of the scheme, we propose a load selection strategy that significantly improves the solutions for smooth loading, and maintains its superior accuracy and stability characteristics in the case of severe loading. ?
