Luminescent materials composed of Sr3-3(m+n)/2BimEumAlO4F (m=0.001-0.05, n=0-0.1) were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The excitation and emission spectra of Sr3-3m/2BimAlO4F (m=0.001-0.05) were investigated using photoluminescence spectroscopy; broad-band emission peaks owing to the P-3(1)-> S-1(0) transitions of the Bi3+ activator were observed centered near 427 nm. Critical emission quenching, as a function of Bi3+ content in Sr3-3m/2BimAlO4F, was observed at relatively low concentrations of the activator. The quantum efficiency of Sr2.985Bi0.01AlO4F in comparison with sodium salicylate was explored. When Sr2+ ions in the oxyfluoride host were replaced by Bi3+ and Eu3+ ions, the effective s(2)-sp and f-f transitions of the Bi3+ and Eu3+ ions, respectively, were simultaneously observed. The diverse excitation and emission photoluminescence spectra and color CIE coordinates, as well as the blue to orange-red emission, obtained using Sr3-3(m+n)/2BimEunAlO4F (m=0-0.05, n=0-0.1) phosphors are also discussed.
