- Abstract
- A quantum dot (QD) is a semiconductor nanoparticle whose electrical and optical properties change as its size decreases down to a nanometer scale. Because it has unique properties such as bandgap tunability over a wide spectral range, a narrow emission bandwidth and a high photoluminescence
quantum efficiency, it is drawing attention as a next-generation display technology, QD technology has display applications in two directions, namely, QD films for liquid crystal displays (LCD) and QD light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). Recently, the performance of QLEDs has been greatly improved as a result of multilateral efforts based on a fundamental understanding of the device physics and advanced device engineering. QLEDs are expected to be commercialized within 3-5 years and to bring about many opportunities in the display market. Here, we review recent progress in QLED technology and key issues that must be solved if practical QLED displays are to be realized.
